Dry Ice Blasting
in Cincinnati
Soot and fire damage, gone — without the mess of getting it off.
Dry ice blasting strips soot and char from framing, brick, and equipment without water, chemicals, or scrubbing that damages what’s underneath. Yeti Restoration answers 24/7 and is on-site fast across Cincinnati and Dayton.
What is dry ice blasting?
Dry ice blasting uses compressed air to fire small pellets of frozen CO2 at a soot- or smoke-damaged surface at high speed. The pellets hit, freeze the residue, and sublimate — turning straight from solid to gas on impact.
That’s what makes it different from sandblasting or soda blasting: there’s no water, no chemical residue, and no secondary blasting media left behind to clean up. Just the soot, gone.
Why Yeti reaches for dry ice blasting on a fire job
Once we know how far the smoke and soot traveled, we match the cleaning method to what’s underneath. Dry ice blasting earns its place on jobs where the surface can’t take abrasion or moisture:
Non-abrasive
Won’t pit, etch, or wear down wood framing, brick, block, or metal the way sandblasting can.
No added moisture
A fire loss is already about drying out a structure — the last thing it needs is a cleaning method that adds more water.
No secondary waste
The CO2 pellets sublimate into gas on contact. What’s left to clean up is the soot itself, not soot plus sand plus water.
Reaches tight spots
Works into corners, joints, and uneven surfaces that are hard to scrub by hand.
Safe around live equipment
Because it’s dry, it can be used near electrical panels and machinery that water-based or chemical methods would put at risk.
What we treat with it
Dry ice blasting earns its place wherever soot has to come off a surface that water, chemicals, or abrasion would ruin.

How the job runs
Every loss is different, but the work follows a clear order. Here’s how a Yeti crew runs a dry ice blasting job.
Assessment
We walk the loss with you, map how far smoke and soot traveled, and confirm what’s salvageable versus what needs to be removed.
Protection
Anything nearby that shouldn’t be blasted gets covered and sealed off before we start.
Blasting
Technicians work the affected surfaces with the dry ice equipment, section by section.
Inspection
We check the treated surfaces and go back over anything that needs a second pass.
Odor treatment
If smoke odor remains after the soot is gone, we follow with thermal fogging or hydroxyl treatment — the same process we use on every fire loss.
What it costs
Dry ice blasting is one part of the fire and smoke restoration process — not a separate line item in most cases. You’ll get an exact number after a free, no-obligation on-site inspection.
You should never pay just to have someone come look. If a company charges for that, call a Yeti instead.

Dry ice blasting FAQs
Will dry ice blasting damage what’s underneath the soot?
No — that’s the point of using it. It’s non-abrasive, so it lifts soot and char without wearing down or pitting the surface underneath.
Is my home or building safe to re-enter after a fire?
That’s the fire department’s call, not ours — we don’t enter until they’ve cleared the structure.
Why does the smell come back after the soot looks gone?
Smoke odor penetrates porous materials. If it’s still there after cleaning, it needs thermal fogging or hydroxyl treatment, not just surface cleaning.
Is dry ice blasting covered by insurance?
As part of a fire damage claim, typically yes — we build the documentation your adjuster needs from the first visit.
